|
|
Hello fellow trumpeters worldwide!
So I've tryed to find something on it, but haven't found much information about it. My problem is simple - I have a old piccolo trumpet courtois 120 that I got from a friend but the A pipe is missing. Does anyone know if old selmer leadpipes or bach 196 piccolo have the same dimensions as the courtois has?
All the best and stay healthy! |

I know a number of players who simply pull the Bb pipe out further. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

The biggest problem is that I'm situated in Estonia and and it would cost almost half the value of the horn to get a new A pipe custom made and shipped here, so that's why I was considering buying a different brand one that might be easily available in europe. |

This doesn't work on all piccs. Schilke horns are meant to do this, but many others with two designated pipes typically do not get good results as the Bb pipe simply isn't long enough. _________________ (List horns here) |

To take a Bb piccolo down to A you just need to add about 30 mm* of length.
Bob Reeves makes an A adapter for a cornet mouthpiece piccolo. You know how a cornet-to-trumpet adapter works so that a cornet mouthpiece can be used in a trumpet? Well, this A adapter is really a cornet-to-cornet adapter that just adds in about 30 mm of length.
I believe the intent of the Bob Reeves adapter is for Schilke picc users who do not want to pull the pipe out to A. This gets the horn out to A length while leaving the pipe mostly in.
I don't know if your Courtois piccolo uses a cornet or trumpet mouthpiece but it should be possible to do the same adapter trick with a trumpet mouthpiece, too.
Hopefully you can find a tech in Estonia or closer to you in Europe that can make this for you. It should be simple enough to do .... said the non-tech person....
* I just did a quick measurement on my picc with and without the adapter and got a 1 3/16 inch difference which I converted to metric. So don't take this 30 mm number as super accurate - double check it. |
