|
|
Clarinettist Herb Blayman designed and built the heaviest, most solid wind instrument stands I've ever seen. They are modular, with separate bases, risers and pegs. The pegs are made of a no-scratch material. They make the most reliable trumpet stand I've found. Unfortunately, they disappeared from the market for a number of years, but they have returned with the same quality. You can see them at www.blaymanmusic.com. _________________ Jim19043

All I see is a clearance sale...are you sure they're 'back in business'?
Also, $90 for a stand ? The K&M stand is less than $20 and portable... |

They look pretty interesting, but it seems a bit odd to announce “we are back!”, then only have B stock merchandise for sale, and nothing definite about when new stock will be available.
Also, while I understand that heavy is good regarding stability, it seems like they might add a lot of weight to an equipment bag, especially if the bases are steel.

Hehe, touché!
That being said, if their stands improve my sound as much, I'd be interested in buying one. |

I just received an email from Blayman Music thanking folks for their patience and giving the status of their production of new inventory. Here's the address to their website, where the update can be found:

I wonder how that Eb clarinet peg would work with a short bell piccolo trumpet like the Schilke P7-4? The only stand I found to work with the P7-4 is a cut down Spyder stand which is not super secure. |

The Spyder stand is neat because of its compact design and easy portability, but you are right about the questionable stability. I'll check with the person who manages Blayman Music and see if they have any thoughts on safely holding the short bell piccolo trumpet. _________________ Jim19043

More news from Blayman: newly-designed bases are available, and a newly-designed, better-fitting trumpet peg is expected in the second phase of their product rollout.

I love Blayman stands for horns around my workbench and have 4 of them on my bench, even one I modified for assembly work. Check it out!

Very cool, Josh! It had not occurred to me that with the piston and top- and bottom-caps removed from the No. 2 valve, the trumpet peg could serve as a maintenance jig. _________________ Jim19043
