Something odd about the mouthpiece on that third trumpet, though. |

Pretty amazing! I believe she trains by eating bananas sideways.

There are a few videos of Mnozil Brass floating around with Gansch playing his trumpet and flugel at the same time, I think. _________________ 1932 King Silvertone cornet

Hehe, that's pretty cool. One of my former teachers was able to play 2 trumpets at the same time, so I knew it was possible but 3...and work it into a song, that's something else. |

It's a schtick/gimmick that works for her, but for 99.997% of the rest of us, what use does it really have?
It's like circular breathing? Oh, you can do it? Congratulations - good for you. Now apply that to any normal gigging in a meaningful way. Oh, you can't? Didn't think so.
It's fun to watch, but it's not something I'd ever bother myself with learning - I don't play a single horn well enough to worry about it. _________________ Patrick Gleason

of course it's a gimmick. It's entertainment. I thought it was funny to watch. I'm certainly not something I'd like to do.
And this is a different topic, but there are circumstances where circular breathing would come in handy.... especially as I get older! |

Circular breathing? I'm 50 and I've gigged thousands of gigs since I played my first ones when I was 17. I've never been compelled to learn to circular breathe because simply put, it's not necessary. Even when Maynard incorporated it as a gimmick in his stage shows, there was always a trade-off on sound and control as he was going through the motions to circular breathe. _________________ Patrick Gleason

There’s not always a trade-off of sound quality with circular breathing. There are folks who do it quite smoothly. I wish I could do it—Not because it’s needed, but because it’s hard to do.
I wish I could do the balancing trumpet act, but I’d probably drop the horn.
I wish I could bounce a golf ball on my wedge, too.
I think it’s fun to do hard things. _________________ Craig Mitchell |

I saw a guy in an Army band do that years ago at the Great American Brass Band Festival. It was pretty entertaining. _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |

Circular breathing is very useful if you're an improvisational jazz soloist because it allows you to extend musical thoughts and/or melodic phrasing well past the point at which you would otherwise have to interrupt those thoughts/phrasings with a normal breath.
Clark Terry, Bill Watrous and Don Menza are examples of players who have used circular breathing for these artistic purposes. _________________ HERMOKIWI |

Rahsaan Roland Kirk played interesting music on multiple instruments simultaneously while practicing circular breathing. Now that’s impressive. |

There are times I watch Carling's videos and realize that I'm watching and listening to a very good and skilled entertainer, and I enjoy them for that.
