Anyone else glad that TH provides an oasis from political drama and discourse?
I went on a walk today with a longtime friend. We regularly discuss politics and, over the thirty years we have done so, we have been able to civilly discuss our opinions.
Today he was basically foaming at the mouth and it was difficult to remain civil.
I am pretty sure this doesn’t violate the ban and I hope those who choose to respond can avoid taking this into the weeds.
Mods, I hope I am not crossing the line, nor making your lives harder. Not that you need my approval or permission, feel free to pull if necessary. |

Yes.
I know I've gotten political at times on here, but, honestly.... I could go a decade without having to talk about politics again, I think.
I also listen to sports talk radio for the same reason. Frankly, I don't really care about my local sports teams that much, but I enjoy listening to them talk about it.

Being that our present political map is very volatile, and has been for 20 years, one needs to pay attention to it but not be obsessive about it in my opinion. I have been part of a recovery group for just shy of 36 sober years now and we have a saying with regards to relationships like you mentioned. It is, "principles before personalities." In the trumpet herald I feel you do a wonderful job of this. People give you space to speak and hold your own opinion on various trumpet related topics. Thanks. _________________ "There are two sides to a trumpeter's personality,

Yes. Politics used to be allowed here and it was not a pleasant time. The attacks spilled over into the non-political posts and you couldn't really get away from it. _________________ --Matt--

Yes. I enjoy this oasis. If I want political discourse I go elsewhere. _________________ Music is a fire in your belly, fighting to get out. You'd better put a horn in the way before someone gets hurt. |

Sometimes the politics of your local concert band are harsher than the nationwide situation! :p _________________ Please join me as well at:

Living at the far side of the pond I´m extremely happy that the TH is free of political discussions. An oasis. Which might be a good thing considering all these safaris. _________________ Cornets: mp 143D3/ DW Ultra 1,5 C

In a way I'm glad this is an "oasis" , and I am a moderator on another forum and I am glad it is also an "oasis" .
But in another way it does make me a bit sad. What I mean is, it is saddening that it is necessary. It's saddening that, as humans, we have such trouble remembering that those we disagree with are not therefore enemies.
As a canuck on the outside looking in at America, I can tell you the rest of the world doesn't see much of a difference between your political tribes. We just see "Americans" .
That's one of the things I love about music - it's a common language that always reminds us that we have more in common than we disagree over. |

I look on TH as a safe place to get away from all the noise. There are plenty of other places to go. if you want that. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I was a contributor to R&P back in the day. In many ways it was much worse than today’s political climate.
I have no problem with a clear line on allowable topics in a forum. There are plenty of forums dedicated to religion and politics that one can join if one wants to discuss that. Or they can start their own forum. |

I think the political climate is how it is because we see or hear carefully crafted tales of how "bad" things are... but then I look outside and the trees are still there and the birds are oblivious to the political machinations. Mankind still thinks it can save itself and this we are in a pendulum which continues to swing more rapidly and sharply.

Indeed, it is great that TH is “big brothers” free! (Plural for brother because each political side has his own big brother) _________________ S’il n’en reste qu’un je serai celui là (Victor Hugo)
