Hi all, I’m wondering what people think is the best treatment for dry lips that is READILY AVAILABLE? I realize there is one by a trumpet player for trumpet players, but I need something you can run to any grocery or drug store and pick up on the fly. |

I love Chopsaver, and if you buy a bunch at a time you won't need to worry about running to the store when you run out. And I swear I've seen it in stores. I think I saw it in a health food store near me? I can't remember.
But my brother swears by Blistex DCT. Works for him. Try that, it's available everywhere and I think it's popular with the Drum Corps crowd. _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

I have a favorite that can be difficult to find a brick and mortar source for. That always frustrated me until I purchased a bunch online and reorder when I am getting down to the last few.
That way you could even toss one or more in with your trumpet accessories. |

It was in CVS pharmacies back in 2015/16. I don’t know if it still is, but it doesn’t show up on the cvs website.
This thread from 2015 announces the business deal with CVS. |

Chopsaver. https://www.chopsaver.com
Stay away from anything with Camphor or "medicated". Feels good but has a drying affect over time, not to mention the chemical part. Who knows if that's really good for you.
Old school.. Vaseline/petrolium jelly. But even that says not to digest or "insert".. how could you not if you're putting it on your lips.?? _________________ Freelance Performer/Educator

Neutrogena is the best I’ve found. I also mix some CBD oil into melted neutrogena and that I also like. _________________ Mouthpiece Maker

My favorite is Mentholatum Natural Ice. It is medicated and I used it daily for decades. It outperformed other non-medicated lip balms hands down.
I never experienced any drying effect, but that may just be me. |

DCT is the best by far that I've found. And while not every store carries it I have managed to find it in regular stores like CVS. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

I like the Burt's bees vanilla bean flavor. Peppermint oil- found in their other flavors and in blistex- doesn't react well with my lips over time despite its otherwise soothing qualities. |

Unfortunately, I can’t recommend chopsaver; very expensive and very inconsistent.
I cannot tell you how many times I purchased a grainy tube of chopsaver from CVS. The price is much higher than other similar lip balms. I purchased 3 tubes from Midwest clinic 3 years ago and had to o a toss 2 of the tubes, both dry and grainy.
Also, this is the same experience most of my colleagues have run into. Perhaps this is a quality control issue, but I would not currently recommend chopsaver.
The best bang for your buck and ubiquitous; Whole Foods Organic Lip Balm.
Usually $1/tube, no fancy medications, supposedly natural.
+1 for Robinson’s products. You’ll likely need to stock up online and a bit pricey. But, great products and often good sales. |

I use Burt's Bees, the honey version the few times I need a lip balm. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

Chopsaver for me, works wonders, put it on every night before I go to sleep, lips feel great the next morning. I know someone else said very expensive, it's $9.95 for a three pack right now, expensive? I don't think so! |

Blistex DCT works for me also. If I'm really beat up after a gig (which thankfully hasn't happened in a while - getting beat up, that is!), I slather vitamin E oil on the chops. |

I like Chopsaver but for me it's too expensive for everyday use. I like it to use it when I've overworked my chops. Blistex dries out my lips. My "go-to" daily lip balm is Chopstick Blue that has sunscreen (important to me, sun is bright around here) and aloe vera so it tends to keep my lips moisturized and more supply (very dry around here, too). Regular Chopstick seems too "waxy" and thick to me. Very personal choice.
