Does anybody know who played the trumpet solo in the 1970 English Chamber Orchestra recording of Handel's Messiah recording of "The Trumpet Shall Sound?" _________________ Jon J

I don’t know for certain but it was most probably David Mason (of Penny Lane fame) , as he generally did the baroque stuff with the ECO at this time.
Phillip Jones, whose wife was the ECO manager, did the classical stuff.
If it was David, he would have played it on his French Besson D trumpet, which had a fabulous sound. He change to a Schilke in 1973 as I recall. |

Many thanks Gabrieli. I didn't know how I would find this without the actual CD cover, and it's probably no longer distributed. This list is great! _________________ Jon J
