|
|
Hello Everyone, I just want to announce that tomorrow 4/27/21 I'm taking down my website. I'll still be available for some services, and mouthpieces etc. If anyone is interested please just contact by my email.
flip@flipoakes.com
With the loss of Kanstul my manufacture and builder for over 25 years, there's not much sense of keeping it up any longer.
I want to thank hundreds, or thousands of friends, and customers I've met throughout this journey, and I'll try to keep in touch as best I can.
Thank you ALL !!
Flip Oakes

I second that.
While I never played on the WildThing it sure did establish itself here as a beloved horn and a reputation of being the best for any genre.
It is sad to see the industry changing. Hopefully new manufacturers will step up. |

Flip-
From the many posts on this site, it is clear you are a gentleman of real class, not to mention a talented and respected horn builder.
I wish you good luck with all your future endeavors!
Sincerely,
Steve |

Best of luck Flip, the trumpet community needs people like you. I hope you find a way to continue providing us with the benefits of your knowledge and experience!

Greetings Flip,
I was thinking that maybe Adams has the talent to build Wild Things for you? If you have, or could reproduce the bell mandrel, they might be willing to build a prototype for review. Schilke has the talent to do it domestically as does Shires, maybe they are worth a phone call; just a thought.
Blessings,

Flip,
You worked on a cornet of mine years before you launched your own horn line. The work was impeccable. You did a digital valve alignment on my Taylor pocket trumpet -- again, your work was simply awesome.
It is my loss that I didn't try your instruments when I had the chance. Thank you for your efforts and vision. _________________ J. Notso Nieuwguyski |

Best wishes Flip. I still have the gold plated Wild Thing I bought back in the early 2000s. _________________ Galen Tromble

By the way, I believe Flip is still doing his total enhancements, I’ve had him do this on my LA Benge, it’s DEFINITELY worth the cost.

I might be interested in doing this on a horn. But, since the website is down, IDK the cost. I also seem to remember that he can only do them on a couple of bore sizes, and I don't remember which these are. Anyone got any info on this? _________________ royjohn

You could call him. Definitely .460 is one bore size he can do, ML is either .460 or .459, and he has at least one size in between IIRC. |

As I recall, Mr. Oakes posted years ago on here stating that he had the equipment for handling .460 and .470 bores, but not .459, so no Bachs apparently. Hope I'm wrong on that... |

Flip has tooling to work on .460", .464" and .470" bore horns. These are the I.D. sizes of his WT tuning slide tubes. _________________ Brian A. Douglas

There is one reason that I practice: to be ready at the downbeat when the final trumpet sounds. |
