Chris Griffin was the lead trumpet player for many years. He also played with Charlie Barnet and Benny Goodman. Thad Jones was in the section. Not sure about the other players. |

In the mid sixties I was playing in show bands in the NY Catskill Mt. Resort Hotels. Chris Griffin's son was playing lead with me at the Windsor Hotel. He was a VERY good player also. I think he was studying with Roy Stevens at the time. Used his mouthpiece.

When it was in Chicago, Don Jacoby was in the section. Maybe lead? _________________ Music is a fire in your belly, fighting to get out. You'd better put a horn in the way before someone gets hurt. |

On the Ed Sullivan show I did with Harry James in 1968, the trumpets were Chris Griffin, Thad Jones and Jimmy Nottingham. YouTube "Robert Goulet/Harry James 1968" doing "Marie". The show was billed as a tribute to Irving Berlin.

I worked a lot with Jimmy Nottingham. The plunger mute fills in the middle of the song sounded EXACTLY like Jimmy. _________________ Tom Barreca |
