|
|
Hello everyone,
A question to Getzen afficionados:
I have the opportunity to get either a Getzen 300 cornet, or a Getzen Capri cornet, for the same price. Both are in mint condition, from a shop that guarantees it for 6 months, both recently checked, oiled and and played.
I can't try them, the shop is too far. Which it the preferred option? Is one more of a student horn and the other more of a pro horn? |

The 300 is the entry model.
The Capri is further up the line.
Which one you'll prefer I have no idea but the Capri should be able to be sold on for more should you choose to. |

Both are good.
I know some that regard the Capri as a better cornet than the Eterna, so it's probably pretty solid.
I actually have a Capri, but I mostly play my Bach 184. It's good, though. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

I've owned both and did an A/B comparison. The 300 played well and was very free-blowing but it sounded like a trumpet. I kept the Capri because it sounds more like how I think a cornet is supposed to sound. I had to experiment awhile to match the right mouthpiece to it but once I found the right setup it does everything cornets are supposed to do--warm sound, easy flexibility, good slotting, and I love it. If they're both the same price and condition, go with the Capri. It's Getzen's intermediate model, but it has most of the features you'll find on professional horns. Mine is over 50 years old but is in fantastic condition and the valves and slides are like new. _________________ Bryan Fields

I think you will find that the 300 is also a long cornet which may explain people's saying it sounded like a "trumpet". My Mother in Law played a Capri in municipal band for years and it was a damned fine cornet _________________ "There are two sides to a trumpeter's personality,

Good advices above , the 300 is a tight wrap horn probably to fits to small kids hands , the Capri is a short model cornet that plays better than some pro models I have try in the past , go for the Capri .

I had a couple Capri's. Nice horn but nothing special. Never played the 300 but as mentioned the Capri is a step up. _________________ Too many Old Cornets to Count |

They made the 300 in both the "long" style and a shepherd's crook. I had two of the 300 shepherd's crook cornets at one time and sold them to pay for an Eterna. |
