Hello all,
Been a while since since I started a thread... A friend and I started thinking about preparing the Vivaldi Concerto for Two trumpets. We have played it before, and thought it might be fun to do it again. Pulled the music out and started to work on the odd fingerings measures and trills. Thought it was a good idea to listen to a version and the first youtube version to pop up, was one done in Japan. After watching for a few measures, I noticed that the older fellow was playing a Schilke, and the fourth valve slide was missing. So either it fell out on his way to the stage or maybe sonically, a thing???? Have not tried pulling mine out yet to see if it makes a difference. Anybody know that this changes the horn for the better????

Your post triggered a memory of a thread about the fourth valve. While searching I think I remembered what I read.

There is a note that can be played more easily on the pic without the slide. Essentially the tube becomes the bell. Again if memory serves there are tiny bells that can be inserted in place of the crook for this purpose.

[edit 1]Here we go. Machining a Brandenburg mini bell for the 4th valve of a pic

There may be other threads that discuss playing without the bell. I have a vague memory of that discussion.

[edit 2]Found it. High As in Brandenburg 2

Maybe I haven’t gone into dementia yet.
