Here's a question to the guys who play a tuning bell trumpet. Do you case your horn assembled or do you have a special case that allows you to carry your horn with the bell and body separated? Is one way better than the other? I'm expecting my Schilke B1 back from the Schilke factory this week. They converted it to a B1L. Thanks.

IMHO, I think keeping your trumpet assembled is a better move. Eventually, with the constant removal and reattachment of the bell could result in gradual degredation and perhaps leakage. I've never played a detach before, so I wouldn't know, but I still think the more time your trumpet spends in one piece (minus the MP removal, ofcourse

I have a B1L. The only time I would detach the bell is when you give it a bath or when swapping bells.

Well ... still sort of pertaining to the subject, I had that issue with my Yamaha 9610 Eb/D ... just didn't like it in a case. So, I sold the case it came with and have relocated the horn and extra bell into a nice Reunion Blues Gig Bag ... horn in one compartment and the bell in the other. It may not be as safe as a case structurally, but at least I know the bell and the horn aren't moving around in there being snug inside the foam-lined compartments.
