KGU trim kit
Im torn between the light and medium trim kit. Any info on either of the two would be helpful. Thanks _________________ Getzen Capri Series

I have a lite set for my Getzen and Lawler horns but I never use it , it seems to choke the sound to my ears.

Do you have them in raw brass? If so do they tarnish and turn ugly like unlacquard instruments _________________ Getzen Capri Series

Anything made of brass that doesn’t have clear lacquer is going to tarnish, including valve caps. Small items like that can easily be cleaned/polished with something like Flitz metal polish, but they will eventually darken again.

I have bought and tried both KGU and Harrelson trim kits on different trumpets. They're always nice kits and they work as expected. The Harrelson kits might be a bit more "polished" which may explain the price difference.
BUT I have to say that I prefer only adding weight to the bottom valve caps and with that in mind, the Curry Ccaps are inexpensive, silver plated and they come with rubber rings that really make a difference too.
All those weight-adding modifications generally add some darkness and lock the slotting. Sometimes they help the horn sing, sometimes the opposite. That is something you have to try before you know because it depends on the horn and probably mostly on you and your playing.
If you never have tried any trim kits before, my advice is to order some Ccaps from mouthpieceexpress.com. If you - after trying them - really want more weight, then sell them and order a complete trim kit from KGU or Harrelson. |

I had a heavy KGU Trim Kit on my Yamaha 2335. As krax noted: All those weight-adding modifications generally add some darkness and lock the slotting.
I called my 2335 with the KGU Trim kit my 'poor man's Monette'.
I really liked the sound I got from it, but I eventually sold it, since I had to many Bb horns.
On my B&S Challenger II (37) I do love the Curry Ccaps. They improve slotting without darkening the sound of the horn. _________________ B & H Sovereign 928
