How far could you throw your trumpet, mouthpiece, and straight mute? Which goes furthest? |

You can't make any generalizations. Everybody's different and they each respond differently.

I'm pretty sure the mouthpiece with it's relative density and small size and - thus decent airdynamics would go the furthest.
I have no intention of actually testing this hypothesis, however. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

There was an old saying in Boston: “How far can you throw a trumpet in symphony hall?”
While studying/working in the area, a former teacher of mine and his buddies all pitched in for a cheap beater from a pawn shop or antique store. A number of people balked- couldn’t get over the mental barrier of throwing a trumpet. He didn’t say who won, but I think somebody took a chunk out of a chair. |

Don't know about that, but in high school we did learn that every trumpet player's mouthpiece - even the same brand and size - made a different pitch when dropped onto the carpeted floor of our band room. Needless to say that improvisation and composition ensued. _________________ --Matt--
