Hey everyone,

When I was younger, I used to play trumpet. I'm a student now and I want to get back into it. I found an advertisement on an online marketplace selling a Gaudet-Courtois trumpet for €275 including 2 mouthpieces, case, mute and some maintenance equipment such as oil and lubricant. The seller however did not know the exact model, as it was his son's trumpet. Can anyone help me in determining whether this trumpet is worth it, or if I should look further. I'm a student, so money isn't free so I am a bit careful. I provided some pictures in the imgur.

Serial number is 36613

Thanks!

I could not get your link to show up, but a little Googling gets me this reference. I may have seen your example on Reverb from France. All the examples I have seen are C trumpets, some with a Bb extension, some without. Seem to be student line.

Does this help?

From the serial number this would appear to be a 50 year old intermediate trumpet. For an experienced player this would be a interesting trumpet to tinker with.

For a student on a limited budget - no.

At this time, you don't have the knowledge to evaluate mouthpiece gap, valve alignment, compression, red rot etc. All problems with older trumpets.

Please consider something like a used Japanese made Yamaha student trumpet or a 300 series used Getzen from a local music store. They are more likely to be in good playing condition. There are other desirable brands but I'm not sure what is readily available in your area. Best if you could take an experienced trumpet player with you to try them out.

Thanks, this one is the Bb version, link should work now, I'll reevaluate it then. Guy said it was maintained and cleaned well

Appears to have a major patch on the leadpipe. That could be a serious flaw.

It's newer than 50 years old. My Courtois flugelhorn is in the 13XXX range and was brand new in 1986.
Patch on the leadpipe is to be concerned about. Does the seller offer return privileges?
