I've got one of Mr. Davis' Calicchios. It's the 1s7. I've used it on several broadway tours and it has proven itself a great workhorse. All the sizzle you could want. Nice and warm too. Intonation is fantastic. Killer horn. |

I recently bought a CD 1S/9 in silver. It plays very similar to my Calicchio 1S/9 after which it was modeled. Charley's horn has a beautiful sound to it and slots much better than my Calicchio. I've received a surprising number of compliments on the sound of this horn from my trench mates here in Los Angeles. The build quality is exceptional. Yes, I would very much recommend a CD horn. He knows what he's doing. Bill Bodine |

Two entirely different horns. Two entirely different players.

This is a little cryptic. Are you answering me or commenting on what came before? _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Are the CD trumpets still in production? If so, who is making them? |

Charley has some ex-Kanstul people making his horns now and he's invested in new tooling for his parts. Bob Reeves is the main source to find them and Washington Music Center may have some as well.

I've been playing the Charles Davis horns for over a year now. I replaced a Calicchio R3/9 with a Charlie Davis west coast that we added a #3 Calicchio bell and #9 pipe to. With Charlie's tweaks it plays exactly like my Calicchio R3/9 but more in tune. I've since ordered and received a Charlie D #/9 copper bell and it is really a great jazz horn. CD horns are very much recommended by this Los Angeles player. Bb |
