Baltimore Brass Company will be closing October 1st, 2022. Very sad news. Baltimore Brass is the best place to go for service or to purchase a horn in the Baltimore area.

As of October 31st, 2022 Baltimore Brass Company will be closing. This difficult decision comes as a result of the impact of the Pandemic and current rate of inflation. As we are currently exploring prospects for new ownership, we must accept that this may not be a reality. Owners of consignment instruments do not be concerned. Over the next few weeks you will all get a personal phone call from David Fedderly about how you would like your instrument handled and the several options you will have.
Thank you all for the support and friendship we have all shared for the past 30 years. This has been a great run.
Sincerely,
David Fedderly

Yes, I saw this on Facebook as well. Very sad. From their web site and the testimonials on FB, it looks like they are truly a great customer service place. I guess the combination of pandemic, big box stores and online sales has moved them to this decision.
I've often thought about stopping by Baltimore Brass when I visit my friend in Maryland, I guess now I better get up there later this summer or early this fall. |

What will happen to their unsold inventory on 10/1, I wonder? Will it be sold to another brass store / music shop, be part of the liquidation process, go on eBay, etc. etc.? _________________ 1932 King Silvertone cornet

Too bad, as they were a good store to do business with, but not surprising that music stores are struggling. COVID greatly exacerbated negative trends in the industry.... |

They have a large selection of brass instruments, that rivals Dillon Music in NJ and Chuck Levins in MD. And they have one of the best repair shops in the Maryland - DC - Northern Virginia area.
But much of their inventory consists of used horns being sold on consignment. So I suspect the instruments that don't sell will go back to their current owners.

Hmmm. There is a particular rare horn they have that I am very curious about but maybe not so curious as to actually buy it. Dilemmas! _________________ 1932 King Silvertone cornet

Baltimore Brass just announced that they will remain open. This is great news. They are the best place in the DC/MD area to take your horn for service. And they have a large inventory of brass instruments for sale.

Indeed, they are a great place and that would really suck if they closed.
I hope they decide to redo their business model to be mainly a repair/consignment place. I could not even book a future repair slot this spring they were so deep in repair jobs. Lots of money falling on the floor there. At the same time their new horn inventory is moving like molasses, the same horns were there every time I came. It costs money to keep that stuff in stock. Consignment is no skin off their back, no money is tied up in it plus repair/consign makes them a nice little bonus. _________________ Thane Standard Large Bb / Monette Unity B6-7M mpc

Bummer. I only had one experience with them, but it was awesome. I called about a used trumpet (Marcinkiewicz Rembrandt) and asked for their best ‘cash’ price. They replied with a price I could hardly believe ... and bought it in a second. They offered a trial period too ... which is kinda rare. I played it for a few years (pictured in my avatar) and then sold it. I look at their inventory online all the time. Good folks. Very sorry to see them close. _________________ Blaine
