|
|
Morning All,
Recently got a Bach 189 Eb/D trumpet and trying to determine the best way to store the extra slides. There is no real way to store then within the case securely, so curious to know what extra cases/ideas everyone had to store them.
Thanks for the input. _________________ Bach Bb/C/D/Eb/Piccolo, Wisemann Flugel

Wrap in a towel/washcloth & put 'em in the mute section? _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I got my first Strad Eb /D in about 1975, and back then, the case bed had storage under the horn. I still wrapped the slide in old (laundered) crew socks or sweat shirt cut off sleeves. I still do it with more modern cases. If you need more cushioning, wrap the slides in old t shirt fabric and place inside the old sock or sleeves. I don't know if you "youngsters" with the newer ankle high socks would do as well, but you can still get cheap athletic socks at the Dollar stores, or Walmarts that make good storage.
There was a seller on eBay that offered custom slide storage pouches, but they were a bit pricey.

I got a couple of ACB-branded Gard quad mouthpiece pouches from Trent that work a treat! I used a seam ripper to open up the mouthpiece slots; I put the valve slides in that portion and a full-sized tuning slide will fit in the front portion. Plus, there are velcro steps on the back of the pouch to hold it in place...

I use this hard drive case:

And this foam (left over from another project):

Picture shows Eb slides. I put the felt (right side of picture) in the middle before closing it. There's more felt and some bubble wrap under the slides and foam.

Thanks. More importantly, though, it's safe and protective, compact, and easy to keep track of. _________________ Yamaha YTR6345HGS Bb

I like the hard case shown above!
I had an almost complete set of WT tuning slides at one time and I agreed to be a demonstrator for Flip Oakes. I needed a way to safely store those slides.
I found of bought (I don't recall) a piece of heavy brown flannel, folded it lengthwise and sewed compartments along it. Each slide slips into its own pocket. I fold the top of the flannel over to keep everything inside, then I roll the flannel into small bundle and tuck it away in whatever bag or case I am using. I still have it and still use it, though I only have 4 slides now, plus one flugelhorn tuning bit which also has its own pocket. _________________ Brian A. Douglas

There is one reason that I practice: to be ready at the downbeat when the final trumpet sounds. |

I used Visio to draw up a multi layered storage for the multiple slides, crooks and leadpipes for my Kanstul G, A, Bb pic. I removed a filler block and used a laser cutter to cut foam layers to nestle and protect them.
I always intended on covering the layers with something like flannel or felt but never got around to it.
The pic came with something similar to what Brian described above but I, ymmv, wasn’t too thrilled with the protection offered. |

I've made some by using plastic VHS tape boxes and gluing foam inside.
