OK, so I've got a new horn. My initial reaction to the horn was very positive. What can I expect now? It's day 2 with my new horn and my chops are feeling more tired. Is this typical with any new horn? Should I be concerned at this point? |

I wouldn't be concerned that your chops are "more tired". You're probably playing more and wringing out the horn. You're probably exploring the upper register more than you might have in the past to see where these notes are on this particular horn as well as to see if you can play higher, easier, on this horn than on the other.
I always spend a lot more time with a new horn, just because it's a new horn and I'm still on my honeymoon period with it.
Currently, it's a Yamaha 8335 RGS which is amazing!
Congratulations and good luck with the new horn.

Nice post Dave.
The joy of getting a new trumpet - you practise more, or at least, I do.
The increase in your practising is probably the cause of feeling a little more tired than usual.
I very much doubt that it is the trumpet causing you problems, even if you are going from a student model to a large bore pro model.
Out of interest, what have you just acquired? |

Thanks for the advice. I was hoping that was the case. I've had a similar "down" period after switching to a new mouthpiece and I thought that it might be related to the fact that I may be using some different facial muscles in new ways that I hadn't before. I've been playing on the same B-flat for 15 years! I'll give it some more time. By the way, the new horn is an Edwards B-flat, D4 leadpipe with an M22 bell. Nice! |

txtrumpetguy,
I just saw your previous post on your recent acquisition of the Edwards Gen III trumpet. Nice horn. No wonder you're tired! I'd probably be playing that thing night and day. I'd love to try one someday...when my checkbook and credit cards are safely locked away. Being a horn junkie, I'm still in the early stages of the 12 step program.
