Found in my vinyl collection a Mercury EP, The Jazz Makers, In memoriam Jack Teagarden 1905-1964, George Wettling New Yorkers with, indeed, Jack Teagarden, one of my favorite sax players, Coleman Hawkins and a for me unknown trumpetplayer, Joe Thomas.
What a wonderful player, big broad beautiful tone, very relaxed timing, no unnecessary frills, everything played (melody, improvisations) with deep feeling and with an Armstrong equal strong internal logic.
Is there anybody here who can tell me more about him and maybe also how I can find this player on recordings (groups, titles and so on)?
This EP contents:
Home
Too marvelous for words
Somebody loves me
You brought a new kind of love to me.

Found some info (including discographies) here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Thomas_(trumpeter)

https://jazzinfo.org/artist/joe-thomas-trumpet

The TH editor doesn't like links containing parentheses; the part that it recognizes as a link will take you to a disambiguation page where you can select the link to "Joe Thomas (trumpeter)".

I found all that stuff, including this nice story:

but all that recording labels mentioned are unknown here in Europe so I hope on something more usable.

Can't you try to order from U.S. vendors on the internet? For example, I just found "Mainstream - Vic Dickenson & Joe Thomas & Their All-Star Jazz Groups" on Amazon.

Come on, man, I thought you really wanted Joe Thomas recordings!

There are probably other, cheaper sources that will turn up with a little diligent internet searching.

Bought once an LP with Dupree Bolton (Harold Land, The Fox) in Japan. In the end it costed me 85 US dollar.

(and I payed once 21 euro for a slightly damaged 78 rpm with Billie Holiday, Mrs. Brown to you).

It has to stop somewhere.

I hear you. Once a long time ago I paid over $200 to win a VHS copy of "Let's Get Lost" (the movie) on eBay.
