|
|
The subject says it all. I had my wisdom teeth removed 3 years ago, and I swear my range has never fully returned. Used to have good Double C, not anymore. I wonder if missing that 3rd set of molars has reduced the efficiency of air compression in my mouth. Have any of experienced this or feel the same way? Thoughts? _________________ "What we play is life." ~ Louis Armstrong |

"Differences after wisdom teeth removal"?
Yes. I wasn't as smart. (rim shot!)
Seriously, I've had all removed with no noticeable effect. I would suggest a good look at your playing by a good chop doctor. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I had my wisdom teeth removed a couple years ago and didn't experience any change in my playing. I also had my tonsils removed about 9 years ago and didn't notice any change in my playing but I did notice that it FELT different.
In both cases, wisdom teeth and tonsils, I think I became more aware of the sensation of my soft palate while playing. I consider this a good thing: more awareness.
If you are noticing a change in sensation, just know that you can overcome it and adapt. It almost certainly is nothing permanently detrimental. |

Short answer, yes - a substantial change that took me a while to overcome. With that said, that was 36 years ago towards the beginning of my senior year in high school - it would be difficult to try to discern the long term effect because I had a lot of great years as a player since then. _________________ Patrick Gleason

I had both uppers removed about 30 years ago. Had a gig that night. Keeping the blood out of the horn was the biggest problem, but once they had healed, they changed nothing I could discern. _________________ BKA! Mic Gillette was my mentor and friend.

Yes, my other teeth did not hurt anymore Kidding aside, once everything healed and the swelling from the quite long operation needed to remove the lower two wisdom teeth went away I was fine and never had the impression something significant had changed. _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence
