Hi,

i will be in Tampa in May. Any TH'ers local to the Tampa / St Pete area that can recommend 1 or 2 nice little joints for jazz? Or any groups / trumpet players to seek out?

Thanks!

Mike

While I don't have personal familiarity with the jazz scene in Tampa, doing a quick search I found this site specifically about where to hear jazz in the area.

Also this link about the St. Petersburg Jazz Festival. It was in Feb but a number of groups are listed you might be able to contact. Also an email address for the director of the jazz festival who might be able to steer you to some places.

There's also Orlando and a lot of excellent musicians in the Disney orbit - you might do some research in that vicinity as well.

Benoit Glazer used to be the musical director at Cirque du Soleil in Orlando and at one time hosted jazz events at his home featuring excellent Orlando-area players which appears to have evolved into the Timucua Arts Foundation - he might still host events at his home. He's an excellent trumpet player himself, does production and is tuned into the area jazz scene, he might also have some leads regarding Tampa.

Benoit's web page with contact information.

Timucua Arts Foundation which he founded.
