- or postlude. The catch: I have NO accompaniment.

Normally I play in a church where I lead a 12-piece chamber orchestra, but I have to do this service alone on flugelhorn or trumpet.

I have two pieces that will work and I'm hoping you can give me ideas for others: Rondeau by Jean-Joseph Mouret, and Alla Hornpipe by Handel. Both can be played alone and done in 60 to 90 seconds if shortened.

I'm a jazz player, so my classical technique is only moderate. What else can you recommend please?

Thanks!

You might find some other pieces in Phil Collins’ “In the Singing Style.” https://www.hickeys.com/music/studio/paul_calhoun/private_trumpet_studio/products/sku011575-collins-phil-in-the-singing-style.php

I think you’ll like it. I’m mainly a jazz player myself but I play from it a lot because the selections are so beautiful.

Yes, I can see even from the few abbreviated examples it will be very useful.

I ordered this late last night, and Hickey's Music in Ithaca has already shipped it! What great service.

Certain things from the Art of Phrasing section of the Arban book might work for you. Some nice things hiding in there.

...has many pieces that will fit the bill and can be played on solo trumpet. Several also have a bass accompaniment if you can find a partner on bass instrument or pianist who can comp the line.

The form of the Bach pieces is often A-A-B-A-B(fine), so you can choose to play just enough to fill the time, and still sounds complete. Even some of the pieces written for secular settings work fine for post-service.

All of these are on SoundCloud and fun to practice with the accompaniment.

Good suggestion. Thank you.

I listened to those, and yes, I have found two more that meet my needs.

I would suggest the 12 Telemann Heroic pieces, short, would sound great in a church
