In your opinion, how do the 3 Vizzutti method books compare to others, say the Clarke Technical Studies, the Arban, and the Schlossberg Daily Drills?

I like the 3rd book the best. The duets are really fun to play.
If you want more books for technique, books one and two are excellent. He takes the Clarke #2 studies and puts them through other tonalities, and really does a lot for finger dexterity. Some really challenging etudes, also. If you're thinking about getting one, you might as well get all three. There's some great stuff in there.

I agree with Kurt,

Get the books!
Untill you get them, you can take Clarke 2 and use Vizzuttis ideas, like using other modes on this pattern:

minor, lydian, diminished and whole tone

Also "decompose" the pattern to understand how Clarke constructed it in the first place. By doing that, you will be able to use it more freely. Hint: Look at the first note of the four eight notes. See how it moves up and down, and then finally how it is changed at the end.

You can also alter this pattern (invert it, etc.). Here is one example of what you can do with it (what Jimmy Stamp suggested):

Good luck!

They are very good. One thing they do a marvelous job of, is extending some of the others' ideas throughout a huge number of scales, including whole tones.

Definately buy the books. I think the major advantage of his etudes are that they aren't predictable. You really learn to focus. These books are way over my head but I figure by the time I'm 25 I might have some of the stuff learned. Also, his suggestions in the beginning of each book are great.

Hickey's have them listed, Vol 1 $18-95, Vol 2 $15-95, Vol 3 12.95.

Arban, Clarke Technical Studies & Schlossberg Daily Drills & Technical Studies are classics.

The Vizzutti Method, isn't really a method as such, but its a great collection of modern exercises which supplement the above classic books very well with odd meters, whole-tone and pentatonic scales, pedal tones, range studies, low etudes, vocalise etudes etc.
