Morning All,

Wanted to use the hive mind, and see what everyone knows about the musical 'Evita' from the trumpet perspective.

Mostly interested in Range, Equipment, and Unique things that everyone has noticed in the show.

Excited to give this show a run, but also want to be prepared.

Thanks all!

There are several versions. The original was published by Rogers & Hammerstein. That one had two trumpets.

Concord Theatricals is the current publisher & they offer two versions - a two-trumpet and a one-trumpet.

There is also a German-published version.

I don't have any details on the Concord or German.

The original was a lot of fun to play. Hopefully the new publications continue that tradition.

These are my show notes from the original. I have played several productions of the original where there were two trumpets and also where I was the only trumpet. I don't recall range being any issue. Maybe some Ds & Ebs. It's ALW - he's not a trumpet high note writing kinda guy.

2 parts
Bb - trumpet only
Straight mute only
Two 2nd part lines that need to be covered when only one trumpet:
(#1 & # 4)

#9 (“Peron’s Last Flame”)
52 measures of downbeat 8th-notes. No sensible place to breathe.

Takes a little over 2 hours w/ 15:00 intermission.

Thanks! That is exactly what I was looking for.

You are definitely a wealth of knowledge, and I appreciate reading your reply.

Really good information there, Tim. I played a one-trumpet version of this at the Flat Rock Playhouse here in NC several years ago, and I don’t remember struggling to get through it (I’m not your most dependable “high note guy” when it comes to playing shows).

If memory serves, it was eight shows a week for a month and was not a show I dreaded working, unlike some others that I hope to have forgotten.

By the way, quick nose-breaths (sniffs) have always saved me when there’s no sensible place to breathe.
