Dave Douglas played a concert with his «New Quintet» in Oslo this evening. I’ve listened to a lot of his music during the years, but this was the first live experience for me.

What a player! Great ideas, and one of the nicest trumpet sounds I know. The Bach 25 large bore and Bach 3B is a nice combo … for him 😊

Glad you enjoyed it. I’ve seen him live a few times over the last 10 years or so and it’s always been great. Who else was in the band?

I have a Model 25 similar to his and it certainly doesn’t work the same way for me!

Heard Himbeersafts ago at the Berlin Jazz festival. Great fun.

He was joined on stage by Marta Warelis on piano, a young Polish girl, who played insanely good! Joey Baron on drums, Nick Dunston on bass, and James Brandon Lewis on sax. They played pretty well together! 😊

BTW, I also had one of those «bad» 25’s 😂

Exactly, only Baron missing 😅 I’m not usually into music this free, but this was really refreshing! Dave plays all over the horn with remarkable technique!

I saw Dave Douglas and his group at The Iridium in Manhattan about twenty years ago (trumpet, trombone, plus rhythm section.) Very skilled and creative musicians; just not my style of music.

Probably the Bach L 25 Bell ( heavy weight bell ) that Douglas uses resembles more an typical English Cornet than a typical trumpet like a Bach ML 37. It feels " big " to play with that L bore. The sound i think also resembles more an english cornet.

He also uses a 3B mouthpiece, that has a slightly V shape cup, instead of the typical trumpet cup of a 3C.

Technically what he does with that equipment is impressive but musically is also impresive.
