Hi all, Happy 2024 - I'm a longtime "lurker" on this site who has enjoyed and benefited from the collective brain trust. I started my (so-called) trumpet comeback in late 2022 to participate in a holiday "pop-up" band that played locally, which reminded me how much I had missed playing trumpet. In any event, a huge thank you to all who make this website possible. I am looking forward to continuing my journey.
So one question: I recently had to shovel out the house I grew up in, which included an old Wurlitzer "Lyric" cornet (and original case) that had to have been used by an uncle or my grandfather. The horn is, regrettably, in poor condition and has probably not been played in at least 50+ years and has certainly not been cared for longer even than that.
I have no expertise or time to try to restore it myself, and I assume it would cost a fortune to restore (if restoration is even possible).
I posted the horn on Facebook marketplace in late Spring 2023 but no nibbles. (I would post a photo but I'm too inept to figure out how to do that.)
Any suggestions about trying to determine if it's worth trying to restore or, most likely, if anyone might buy it? I'm thinking it would have to be someone who values vintage horns and would be okay with a project. I live in NJ near NYC - I can't imagine it's worth shipping anywhere.
Thank you very much in advance! _________________ Sometimes you have to play a long time to be able to play like yourself. - Miles Davis |
