Cornet mouthpiece sensitivity

After years of buying mouthpieces to help me get the sound I wanted for jazz, I discovered that what I was really looking for was the sound I had on Cornet. When my trumpet was being repaired, I ended up using my Cornet(with a Curry 1DC mouthpiece) to send recordings to my teacher who was helping learn jazz. He said my sound was more appropriate with the Cornet set up(for playing standards). I eventually got a Lotus 2M Bronze to get that sound on trumpet. Unfortunately, I still have some tuning issues with it and I prefer the Cornet for recordings.
I recently tried a Cornet version of my normal trumpet mouthpiece which is a shallow and tight Marcinkiewicz E.13 C. Findley on my Cornet. I was surprised that I did not need to change the way I played to get drastically different sounds. The upper register felt a little easier as well.
Has anyone else experienced this? Are there folks out there that just use Cornets for everything? It's got me thinking about checking out some of those old Conn Cornets that look like trumpets. Should I have been playing Cornet the whole time. 🤦

People have played cornet for everything. Keep in mind that no matter what you do, the cornet will not project like a trumpet. Yes, I have a Conn 80A which people say will sound like a trumpet. It does sort of but not really. I have a Conn 28A that I play with a shallower mouthpiece and it sort of sounds more like a trumpet, but not completely. Depending on what style of music you are playing, it really can work. But knowledgeable ears will be able to tell the difference.

I’ve played my cornets with everything from a Schilke 8A4 to a Wick 4. Drastically different sound depending on the mouthpiece. As Richard III said, a cornet won’t project as well as a trumpet, and I feel that the upper register on trumpet is a bit easier than on cornet. I prefer to play cornet, but sometimes only a trumpet will do.

As for the trumpet-shaped cornets like the Conn 10A and 6A, they are basically a small bore trumpet with a cornet leadpipe. They play a bit differently than their trumpet counterparts, but lean toward a trumpet tone.
