|
|
Greetings
I just purchased a nice 1976 LA Benge. Good shape.
It has very light valve springs, I'd like to get regular medium tension springs. I called a shop and was asked "what kind of trumpet" and when I said it was an older Benge, the guy said "bring it down, each brand of trumpet has its own springs, I'm not sure about Benge." Over the phone, he suggested maybe just stretching the light springs out, thus giving them more push-back.
What I'd really like to do is just get the 'right' springs for this trumpet.
Any ideas? A source.
thanks much
Richard

Find a shop that carries the Holton spring that fits MF or Martin trumpets. It's a nickel color and ideal for Benge. _________________ "Strive for tone." -John Coppola

The ones on mouthpieceexpress work but might be too light for you.
Check eBay for the TopeSupplyCo springs. They give the actual width and length measurements.
Measure your present springs. The main thing is you do not want a wider spring or it will scrape against the inside of the piston barrel.
The Holtons should work, also ones for the Conn Victor, Yamaha - anything that is only 9mm wide.
What does not work are the High Speed Valve springs that are supposed to work on Benge. They are too wide. That's too bad because they are probably exactly what you would want. |

thanks, everyone....as it turns out, I found another local shop - A&G Best in Oakland - and they put in some compatible springs and also replaced the felt button pads.
All is well. Plays great!
