Anyone know what model this horn is?

This eBay listing says "Eterna 2" and the seller has no more details. The serial number ra1542 suggests it was made in 1988. I found Getzen's use of "Eterna" pretty confusing to be honest. Is this a 700, a 900 a 1200 or none of the above?! The consensus seems to be that the these models differ in quality/tone quite a bit.

Pretty sure this is the pro level 1200 - see the bell to leadpipe bracing ,the single tuning slide brace and the fixed 3rd valve ring.

It had 2 options in leadpipes - it's a bit confusing as to whether there were also 2 options for the valve bore.

It gave an alternative to the 900 Eterna - a place now taken by the 907. If you are evaluating the price it should be compared with a used 900 from that year.

Maybe Getzen will chime in here.

Not to be confused with the present 700S Eterna II which is an intermediate level trumpet.

I agree, they loved throwing “Eterna” on everything back then. 700, 900, 1200, Eterna, Eterna II, etc…. It gets worse when you consider that the 700 of the late nineties was closer to the original 900 than the 900 of that era.

Thanks Brett. The auction ended because I bought it! I paid £700 ($900) for it which I think is OK given that it's a pro getzen that's obviously been well looked after from an era worth a good reputation for quality.

The bell is braced like a reverse leadpipe but it is standard.

It looks very much like the Getzen Canadian Brass trumpet which is reversed.

That does look like a 1200 to me..., but I couldn't say 100%. This appears to be from the years just prior to the family getting the company back... well before my time.

I asked Mary Rima to do a deep dive in her archives and see what she can find about the serial number. If it is there, she should be able to get me the age, model number, and maybe even who it was originally sold to. Bear in mind though that if it is from the late eighties to early nineties, there might not be any record of it.

So not a ton of information from the serial number records other than it was built in late 1987 to early 1988.

Looking at the pictures more closely, I am 99% certain it is in fact a 1200 Eterna II model. The receiver, double pulls on 2nd slide, and trim look right for a 1200. I don't recall them have the front S brace so close to the valves, but this one was made when I was 10 so what do I know. It might say "Eterna II" on the side of the receiver or maybe on the bell, but pictures don't show that.

According to a 1989 catalog, the 1200 was .460" bore with a 4 3/4" diameter bell. It would have been a two piece bell. It also had a thin walled, brass mouthpipe with two available tapers. There should be either a #1 or #2 stamped on the receiver somewhere. The standard mouthpipe is a #1 and #2 was the larger of the two.
