Hi Folks
I’ve been told there are no manufacture parts for Couesnon flugelhorns… Not surprising since the company is out of business.
To what extent can these horns be fixed? |

I suspect it depends on the extent/type of damage, the skill of the repair person, and the depth of one's wallet. Outlining your specific concern(s) would help to get a more specific answer. |

What do you mean by "fixed"? They can be repaired the same as any other instrument. Replacement parts would need to be fabricated or taken from a donor horn, as with any vintage instrument. |

Just got a 1970 vintage Monopole last week. Actually appears to be in excellent condition, and sounds great.
I think I’m just being a little paranoid because they’re not being made anymore and there aren’t many out there for parts.
Should be fine if I maintain it and guard it with my life. : ) |

You're in the same boat as anyone who plays a vintage (or even not-so-vintage) "orphan" horn. As pointed out, parts can be scavenged, adapted, or fabricated. I have two flugelhorns; both are older, orphan instruments. I look after them as the valuable tools they are, but no instrument is worth your life. _________________ J. Notso Nieuwguyski |

It’s just a figure of speech… Not meant literally. |

I have owned TWO; one, being the vaunted Monopole Conservatoire model.
Am guessing (?) about at least 25-yrs total ownership.
Both, since sold. (Intonation issues drove me to drinking).
Never ONCE had to seek out a part.
Enjoyed the almost intoxicating, warm, sonorous, "organic", "fluffy", nasal, breathey, tone.
Replaced by a mint Bach Model-182, and a museum quality pre-War F. Besson (Paris).
Ii believe these unique horns have made me a better Flugelhorn player. _________________ Sub-Optimal Hillbilly Jazz |
