I picked up a King Tempo that came with three mutes for $85. After a bath and some TLC it is great. Plays much better than what I have been using.

King always knew how to make good valves and slides - it should give you years of service. Is it the older nickel plated with lacquered brass slides?

Now you will have to change your name from "Cool-Wind" to ... I know - "The Tempo King"

I had one of those, the nickel plated with lacquered brass trim\accents. It played OK, but it had some real intonation quirks.

You have to watch mouthpiece gap on all Kings - including the "gapless" ones. It's not unusual to find a gap of .333 rather than the common 1/8 of an inch. Once adjusted they play quite well.

It's like they never got the K-Modified memo.

It is indeed the nickel plate with brass slides. Though it does have a nice patina.

I'll have to keep an eye out for the intonation issues the other posters mentioned.

And you are right, I suppose I will need a new handle. 😁
