Here is an article about the legendary Phyllis Bleck who was a member of the Chicago Symphony's trumpet section in 1963.
There were two great women trumpeters in Chicago at that time. The other was Bette Eilers who frequently performed with the Chicago Symphony downtown and at Ravinia.
Both are still with us and I can say I sat in a section with Bette more than a few times and she was as good as anyone.
