|
|
What are some trombone mouthpieces that are representative of the spectrum - i.e. like the 1C, 7C, etc. of the trombone?
Thanks! _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

I either use a King 12C or a Stork T2. The former for inside playing and the latter for more volume when playing outside.
The Stork also is better for articulation in the upper range. I have the Stork T1, T2 and T3. Lots to play with there.
The King is just plain easy to play. Both trombone and euphonium take a lot more air than trumpet/cornet and the King makes the transition easier. _________________ Richard

Robert, if I can speculate why you're asking, I would jump ahead and say that you have to pick a particular instrument's mouthpiece on its own merits and not try to match it up with what one thinks is comparable from trumpet.
caviat: I played trombone in a Lab Band at North Texas and then somewhat off-and-on later. My biggest safari was trying to match up the characteristics of various sax mouthpieces to my trumpet mouthpiece and finally gave up. Pick a good, workable sax mouthpiece and go from there. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Beginning band teacher here. The Bach 6 1/2 AL is a common mouthpiece that comes with student trombones. I've only had one kid struggle and need a smaller 12C.
Make sure you watch out for large vs small shank mouthpieces. Know which type will fit your trombone. _________________ Bb: 1983 Bach 37 ML

I find that it depends on the rim, cup, throat and backbore shape, in that order.
For example, Wick Heritage cornet and trombone mouthpieces rims are similarly shaped (I have not tried WH for trumpet but it appears to be similar, too).
If you like a big cup and thundering sound, WH can be a good choice. |

As a trombone doubler (who started on trombone and played it as my primary instrument for 20 years), I'm not sure this is a constructive question.

Learning on a PVC trombone that I picked up on a whim on holiday clearance price at a Sam Ash that comes with a generic plastic mouthpiece. I don't have any complaints about the mouthpiece but don't have any basis for comparison. _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen
