a few weeks ago I bought a varsity trumpet I am wondering what company made it due to it has the same valves as my high grade American standard trumpet. I've been told its a holton due to the red brass but I don't think that is a good way to narrow it down serial number is 103

According to the ad for the one I just bought, it was made by Cleveland Instrument Company. Mine is getting delivered today. I'll tell you more when I get it. I have many horns made by Cleveland and love them all.

I just got the trumpet. I can find nothing on it indicating a maker. It is all silver. Valves are bottom sprung and appear to have no wear. The compression is amazing for a horn of this apparent age. Bell is approx. 4.5 inches. It plays in tune. The bell is engraved with Varsity USA. Serial number on the second valve is a C with 186 below.

I'll do some research tomorrow to see if I can find any history of these horns.

Some early Regent cornets and trumpets by the Ohio Band Instrument Co had the same valve style and X brace on the lead pipe.

Here's what they looked like. This is The Regent trumpet. The Varsity has different bracing from the leadpipe to bell, but they otherwise seem the same.
