3rd week question

Please note how patient I've been the last two weeks...

OK, after 3 weeks of BE, things are moving along pretty well. My question is this: on the roll-ins I still get air leaks around my chops. In fact, the roll-in sounds and feels the best (i.e., loud, effortless) when I'm getting the most air leak. Is this just a function of not doing it long enough, and/or is there a more specific, targeted approach to getting rid of the leaks?

More time and experimentation is all that's needed. Keep doing all the excercises and this will start to clean up. Experiment with puffing air pockets, etc., etc.

This may seem like an unlikely deal,
But the lips WILL eventually gravitate towards a greater seal.
As long as you play around with a pocket or a puff,
Over time that will probably be enough.

My gifts of poesy escape me this morning (not enough caffeine?) but thanks. I am finding a bit of pocket to be essential, for me, in producing a full sound on the roll-in.

I've also found in doing non-BE exercises that when a particular exercise ends on, say, a top-staff G, I'll then blow a RI G, just to hear/feel the difference, and that it comes much more easily. Something about comparing the two feels.

I'm into my 3rd week now as well and one of the biggest changest I've had to make is LESS mouthpiece pressure. With lips Rolled-In, mp pressure just chokes off the notes completely. So far, I have to keep reminding myself what to do but I know it will eventually become instinctive.

Experimentation has been key for me as well.

Every so often (i.e. on my good days) the notes in the upper register just fly out of the horn. Pretty amazing for someone who had questionable endurance and range over the past twenty years. It is all about the embouchure set - rolling in and out - and maximizing the efficiency of the blow. Once you realize that simple but at times ellusive fact, your on the right path.
