Entry-level, student, introductory flugelhorn recommendations please. Used.
Vintage is OK but I'm not investing in antiquities. Let's say from the last 50 years. |

ACB Double is a great option based on the one I bought for my son. I didn't hate the Yamaha student model I played either. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

Second the Yamaha. I started on a YFH231S and played that for about 25 years. Good sound, good valves. The old ones didn’t have a ring on the third slide so you’d need to add that. _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence

The above posters are right; call ACB. They have three different 'entry level' flugelhorn models: their Doublers, a Brasspire Unicorn, and a Manchester Brass, made by Carolbrass. I have the Manchester Brass and it is just about as good as friends' Yamahas and whatnot that cost far more. Plus ACB fettles and optimizes and PVAs the ACBs and Manchesters before they leave the shop, so it will be in prime working order. I believe they do the same for the Brasspire Unicorn but I'm not positive. _________________ 1932 King Silvertone cornet

Just looked at a Getzen Capri Flh at a really good price - located in Europe, so not interesting to the OP, I guess, but if you find one in good shape they could be a bargain. _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence

If purchasing a used flugelhorn,
are there any hidden problems / bad years
with these brands, irrespective of model:
Jupiter
Carolbrass
Yamaha
Getzen *
* my favorite brass brand |

I picked up an old(1970s) Getzen Eterna for $500 a couple of years ago. Great horn that has some value for an advancing player too. . . if you can find one. _________________ Bb: Bach 180S37 ML
