Anyone know whether this is the same as a Silver Flair? Seems to me that I had one of this vintage and it is the same model... info appreciated.

That does look like an old Silver Flair... I would say yes.. it is a Silver Flair. Those horns play great.. I saw one at a pawn shop a few months back.. played unbelievably well! _________________ J. Fowler

They are usually very nice playing horns for the money.

According to serial number information can be found seen on websites where King serial numbers and dates are published, King instruments bearing serial number series 406XXX through 457XXX were made during the period 1965 - 1970.
With this horn bearing the serial number 423XXX, it would seem to place the date of manufacture in the approximate middle of this period; say maybe about 1967 or so...
Another indication of that time of manufacture is the word "FLAIR" engraved on the mouthpiece receiver. I owned a 1966 Flair with this kind of engraving on the receiver.
How can I find a Flair in good shape from that time period??? |

Very pretty (and sold, unfortunately).
Great shot of that trigger - best designed trigger ever! |

Any thoughts on how this one compares with the new Silver Flair... I think it is called the 2055 model? I had an early one about two years back and sold it... not too bright. Me, not the horn!

That looks just like the case I used to have also. Those cases had certain distinctive characteristics...
Wonder what the possibility might be that it is the one I actually used to have???
I think it is a nice buy - assuming the horn is in good mechanical condition, valves, etc...
All I have heard - and it is only a rumor - is that the older ones are better, as the newer ones are more "intermediate" in nature. But that may very well be a matter of opinion...
When the Flair was first was introduced, it was the top of the King trumpet line. Under it was a model called the Super 20. Then the Legend became the top of the King line, with the Flair beneath. I think the Legend may have been preceded by something called the "Golden Flair?" |

Dave, I know for a while at least the original Silver Flair and Golden Flair were sold concurrently. Beyond that, I don't know the diffs between them. The later UMI Flair didn't sell that well but had a lot in common with the old one. I think the later Flair was priced with the pro horns.

re: King Golden Flair......drop Pete Candoli a line (Hollywood). If my memory serves me correctly, King built the Golden Flair per Pete's specs.

Yes that horn is a Sliver Flair from the late 60"s. I believe the name HN White Co. appears on the valve cluster. Great horn, wore mine out and sold it last summer. _________________ Bach Strad 37/25
