I got a 1946 Martin Committee yesterday. I found a modern mouthpiece mouthpiece does not fit well. I also found a huge mouthpiece gap.
I am curious to know if a vintage Martin committee requires a mouthpiece with a different shank from a modern mouthpiece?
I appreciate any input.

I have a 1952 vintage Committee. I use a Curry mouthpiece with a bach blank and have found that the gap is about right. However, I have the same piece in a TF model that doesn't fit at all. I'm planing to contact Mark Curry and see if he has any suggestions about what he might do to make the TF model a better fit.
A set of Reeves sleeves might be the answer. I noticed on a record jacket that Chris Botti's Committee that he's holding clearly shows that he's using a Reeves sleeve with his mouthpiece set up.

I have a 1949 Committee and the receiver seems to be apprpriate for the Heim mp and the Bach mps that I use. I have not checked the gap, but the fit seems fine and no different than my other trumpets. |

I had a 1956 Committee a while back and have to agree - Bach and Claude Gordon mouthpieces were the best fit for that horn, along with a vintage New York Giardinelli 10M. Oddly enough, my Kanstul G2 (Heim copy) didn´t work at all. _________________ All the best

Thank you for input. I forgot to mention that I used my favorate Monette B1-5M and found it did not fit my Martin.
I hate to do mouthpiece Safari again. |

Well, I don't know about Monette mpcs, but GRs fit fine in 1940s Committees. I think there's a problem with the receiver on that particular horn. That's what needs to be "fixed."
