I'm pumped just got myself a brand spanking new Bach Strad 37 lightweight for college. I was a bit sceptical about the lightweight, but hey, its the one that sounded and responded the best. why get something else just for the name? excited.... back to playing!! _________________ It's a job that's never started that takes the longest to finish.

Just wanted to share this.
I have known several directors in the past that have frowned upon people practicing with one horn and performing with another. The have indicated that it throws off the whole sound and harmonics that they work so hard at building.
We recently had a contra player buy a new horn and the director did not know it.He yelled down on the field and wanted to know what was different in the contra line that it sounded deeper.
I use to use my old King liberty back in high school for marching season and then switch back to my Bach for performances. The director almost came unglued when she found out.
You might just want to ask your director about it and let them know what it is you want to do. |

In response to camel lips -
you'll probably want to use your "beater" horn for rehearsals during marching season, then switch back during concert season.
just curious, what other horns did you try before you decided on the strad?

ummm lets see. I'm a big Bach fan. if it's good enough for Bud, it's good enough for me.
But I have tried Yamaha's which I liked, but just didnt feel right. I tried Getzens those are nice too but didnt click. hmmm thats about all I have really sat down and tried. I've played on others but I didn't really try to really test it out.
People always talk about the Quality control on Bach's but its not a problem as long as you test a bunch of em out with a good tuner and a good teacher. Ordering them is a different story......... _________________ It's a job that's never started that takes the longest to finish.
