Hi. As you can tell, i play on a Holton ST200 (.465 bore). I have noticed that the horn is incredible bright. At a softish mezzo-forte, the sound will start to spread and gain a lot of edge. At first I thought this was just me, but my cornet and fluegel sounds are incredible dark, as well as my tone on any decent C or Bach. I'm looking for a used large bore C, or a very dark B flat with a large bore and preferably a copper bell. Help me please. |

There's a Kanstul 1500 on eBay right now that looks pretty good. It's not a large bore, but does have a copper bell, which gives it a darker sound. I have a Kanstul 1504 with the same bore (.460) and it plays very open. Here's the link:

Yamaha may have a dark tone...I don't know about Bach however. Those two brands may have something dark. |
