Hello,

Just looking to see what's out there for mute preferences, particularly for soft playing.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
AFH

My favourite soft mute is the TrumCor lyric. It's quiet without being dull, and you can still play a decent mezzo-forte on it. It sounds like a straight mute, only quieter, rather than sounding like a sock.

Bach/Kanstul Black Plastic Mutes (to soften even further, fill with cotton wool balls!)
Denis Wick Adjustable Cup Mute - with cup closed.
Denis Wick wooden mute (one of my most recent acquisitions - love it!)

I second the TrumCor Lyric but I have also fallen in love with the sound of the
Bach plastic mute with some cotton in it (only about 4 or 5 cotton balls otherwise
it will get stuffy on you).

I really like the Blue Chicago Mute, but cant seem to find it anywhere anymore.

Anyone know if they're still being made?

I also like the red Montreal mute, but also cant seem to find that anymore either.

Also consider getting some of the foam mute rings the Gerry Endsley makes. Turns any loud mute into a soft one.
