This one is currently on Ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=16214&item=3724351040&rd=1

The bell is right, but I don't think anything else is, the valve cluster looks very Conn Director, as do the top and bottom caps. I don't know about the braces, leadpipe and tuning slide. What do you think?

Oh, if anyone is interested, I have a silver Reynolds ERA (the twin of an Olds CHR) on Ebay.

Actually, I haven't seen an Olds Super bell like that before (not saying that it's not legit, just odd). The nickel 'tone ring' looks about twice the size of mine.

The serial number does not jive with LA. The body looks somewhat Olds-ish, but not entirely. The valve buttons and valve caps look like 60s Conn. The valve cluster does not look like any Olds I have ever seen. There is a patch on the tubing in the lower right photo.

That's an Olds Super but it was made around 1975. This one was made by the company that bought Olds in the early 70's Norlin Music.

Actually, Gilligan, Olds remained in Fullerton until the company closed in 1979. I found the bell. It appears in the 1932 Olds Catalogue (i.e. with the larger tone ring). The serial number on the body cannot match the bell so this can't be a 1975.
There is a picture here:

http://rouses.net/trumpet/olds32/olds_30s_8.htm

The Super Cornet in the '47 catalogue seems to have the same size ring but the Super Recording has the smaller one.
The valve block is not correct. I agree with it looking like a Conn Director block - look at

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=64373&item=3724253486&rd=1

for comparison. I think this one is a chop shop job.

I think that a Super bell has been put on a Conn body. The valve cluster is wrong. The later Olds Supers did not have a tuning slide brace (unlike the early Supers). the braces look as if the have had some work done and they have been resoldered. I would steer away from this horn.

I't's an early Super stuck onto a Conn Director valve cluster!

That's amazing. A Super-Director for $ 322.90?

It even has a bend in the bell flare.

I wonder what my LARK Bb trumpet with the Bach Bell is worth? lol.
