I am going off to college and decided to replace my B-flat. I have a very good Bach C trumpet and an outstanding Schilke pic, but the B-flat wasn't up to par with the others. After trying many horns including Bach, Schilke, Kanstul, Conn, and Blah Blah Blah, the Yamaha Xeno became the obvious choice. As soon as I played the first note I knew that it was the horn for me. I ended up with the large bore model with a gold-brass bell. If you haven't tried one of these horns, you need to! _________________ We are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams. |

Congrats on finding a great horn for yourself. Did you get the reverse lead or the standard?

I looked around for this very horn hoping to play test one, but the only one to be found around here is the standard 8335. |

I got the standard tuning slide. FYI:If you'd like to try any Yamaha horn, you can schedule a visit to the custom shop in Grand Rapids, Michigan. If you can't find their email online you can contact your local instrument dealer and do it through them. _________________ We are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams. |

If you are totally happy with the Yamaha Xeno I would get one. |

I am, but I'm waiting for the Yamaha/Bob Malone horns to come out so that i can try one of those before i get the Xeno that is out now. I'm hoping they will be at the ITG conference in Denver. |

Is Malone doing a Bflat as well. I know he has a C coming this year but I didn't know about the B Flat.

JOEG,
The following statement is not true:
The RG and RGS models are constructed using a Malone-Designed lead pipe.
These models are considered the Malone Bb Series.
I used to work for Malone. Hiro Imaoka (a designer for Yamaha) had brought these models to the shop along with some Xeno C trumpets for members of the LA Phil to try. These trumpets were in the works, long before Malone had joined the Yamaha team. I am confident that Malone had little to no imput on these instruments.
He designed the 8310Z, has helped develop a trumpet for Eric Miyashiro, and Allen Vizzutti. He has also worked on a trumpet for Wayne Bergeron. (Disclaimer: I am not stating that anybody endorses or plays any specific instruments. Just reporting the little knowledge that I have.)
With all this in mind, I think it is safe to expect that there will be a full compliment of Bb trumpets to follow the C trumpets.
Mike

Mike,
It must have been a great experience working with the both of them.
As far as the horns, you are right, the leadpipe was not an exact design by Malone.
However, Malone did have some input on the horn itself.
Hope this clarifies things.
Sincerely,
