Hello folks,
I'm going to be going on tour in Europe next month and my gigbag simply won't do - not enough protection for all the transporting going on. So I need a hard case that is strong, preferably light to carry around, but needs to have plenty of storage space for all the good stuff that comes with the business. I was thinking about a torpedo case but don't know what kind of storage space they have. All help is appreciated! _________________ V~Raptor Bb, Standard Weight

Hi,
I have a Pro-tec contoured (leather) single case which is small enuff that you won't have any problems carrying it onto any plane...don't forget that sometimes travelling around Europe you'll be on small planes that only have small overhead lockers...if the bags just a little too big they'll make you put it in the hold!!!
Put mutes, music, stands, spare mouthpieces in you suitcase in a backpack and you can sling it over your shoulder, pick up the protec and go off to the gig.
Just a suggestion.
Regards

I would go for an Pro Tec Extreme Pro Pac. Very light - great protection and has an extendible pocket on it that you can have small or extend and put mutes and music in. It also comes with with the back pack option. It is more flexible than the contoured one because of the extendible pocket and back pack straps but will be accepted on any aeroplane. |

Johann24,
I personally use a Torpedo myself. If you're looking for "Protection" I doubt that you'll top this one. It is built VERY sturdy and with quality products. As for storage, there's a side pocket that will allow you to keep some sheet music and/or 2-3 thin books. Although I never tried this myself, I don't think you'll get something like an Arbon's in there.
The optional detachable mute bag is a must IMHO. Even if you don't carry your mutes in there it's great for carrying other stuff as well (i.e. trumpet stand, water bottle, etc ...) The storage compartment inside the lid end holds an amazing amount of your general supplies (i.e. mpce's, oil, tuner, small pencil, lip balm, mpce brush, slide grease, etc ...)
The strap system is nice, too. I personall don't use the back back set up, but use one strap that allows me to throw it over just one shoulder. BTW - you'll get lots of jokes about that short golf bag you're toting around.
The bottom plate is really well thoughout. The case sits up VERY securely and it protects the case as well. At the time I was looking for a new case I also tried the sngle WolfPak as well. That case had no end protection at all. I think the WolfPak case material would get dirty real quick. I'm forever pulling my case out of my car trunk and sitting it on a rainy pavement - no need to worry with the Torpedo case though.
Hope this helps some! _________________ Lon A. Heim

Hi,
I've also got a Torpedo bag (with the mute bag) that's fantastic but I've always left it at home when travelling internationally. I'm scared stiff of it being too large and having to put it in the hold. Does anybody have any experience with this bag on planes outside the US?

That's the issue - I'm really hoping that the case will be small enough to carry onboard. So far the torpedo is leading the race in my mind. Anyone have experience with flying a torpedo? The website claims it's small enough to put under the seat.

When Steve (designer of the Torpedo Bag) travels, I know he uses the Torpedo Bag with no hassle (apart from the wise guy security guy who enquires about the name!). Personally I use a Wiseman, which is of a similar size, with no problems. Wiseman & Torpedo have been designed for the travelling musician.
The Torpedo Bag is THE STRONGEST case I have ever come across. I am not a small guy (ask any of the THers who have met me) and yet Steve has been very happy for me to jump on his case, with his trumpet inside it! We have even played football (soccer for our US readers), against a stone wall, with it!!!
If I was only ever using one instrument, I would have a Torpedo Bag over my shoulder at all times. Should Steve ever get round to producing multiple instrument bags, I will then have to consider my Wiseman very carefully. |

I have the Pro-tec single backpack case that has tons of space and an outer huge pocket for more as well. It has served me plenty of times but I no longer have a use for it as I got a triple. I'm looking to sell it if anyone wants it. Best offer. If you want pictures e-mail me. |
