Interesting comment...I wonder if literary theory translates to musical development and criticism. Probably so as it's all language and critical theory is all about the way language talks about itself...
Lester Bowie in my mind was one of the original postmodern trumpet players, if not THE postmodern trumpet player. If there ever were a deconstructionist in jazz trumpet he's it. As early as the mid-60s he was rummaging around the tradition(s), grabbing bits and pieces and shredding them in order to rearrange them... |
