I think it is a good idea to have as close to the same rim and diameter as possible. |

Practice straight out for 20 minutes: 20 - 40 seconds rest between exercises. |

Apologies if this has been asked and answered but:
1. Is there any consideration to visual appearance of the embouchure while playing? Does it matter if the chin is flat or not etc. I assume the answer is no, what happens during the exercises is detached from such concerns?
2. Are there Caruso players that play well but have visually weird embouchures? Or did Caruso students tend to end up with 'text-book' embouchures over time? |

Are you asking specifically about the appearance while doing the Caruso exercises, and whether it might be different that while doing regular playing?
My opinion - the 'appearance' of the chin indicates how the muscles that control lip position are being used. So the appearance itself is an 'indicator' and a 'guide'. _________________ Most Important Note ? - the next one !
KNOW (see) what the next note is BEFORE you have to play it.
PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'. |

I'd imagine one of the folks who studied directly will chime in as well but:
1. No - don't pay attention to visual appearance. You should notice (but in a non-judgemental discovery way) how things are feeling.
2. At this point I don't know what a textbook embouchure looks like because I've seen a lot of players play a lot of different ways _________________ More than one trumpet

We don't get paid to look pretty. We get paid to sound good. If the chops are working, it doesn't matter what it looks like. NEVER think about proper embouchure (which is a myth). Do the calisthenics EXACTLY as described in these threads and in MCFB and you will discover your own personal perfect set up.
I don't know what a "textbook embouchure" is. I've never seen a textbook. _________________ Bach trumpet artist-clinician
