Recently I've had a problem where I get a popping sound while playing. It appears as if I have moisture in a valve or something but I have determined that it is NOT the horn. It's me.
Any ideas why this may happen? Better yet - how do I get rid of it. It happens usually when I venture into the higher notes (for me) or when I've been playing for a while. |

My now-ex wife had a problem similar to this, although she plays saxophone. What we found was that it was because of her recently tonsilectomy and removal of her adnoids. She would experience a break in the seal, inside her sinuses where air would escape making a popping sound when she reached a certain amount of pressure inside her head. Is this something that has come up just recently? I would recommend checking with an Ear Nose and Throat specialist to see what they have to say. Can't be too careful! _________________ Nicholas Dyson

Is your lip touching the inside of the mouthpiece? |

I experienced this problem too. Sometimes it isn't just spit in one area... It can be a combination of spit in multiple areas of the horn. When you blow, they can collect somewhere that is NOT in the spit valve (usually for me it was in the curve of the back of the bell). I don't really know how I fixed it, but maybe it this is the problem you could try holding the horn at a different angle?
For a solution, consult someone better then me because I don't know the answer to this one...but this is a place to start looking!

I'm not entirely sure but I will definitely check that... Thanks! Thanks everyone for their suggestions. I will let you know what I find out. |
