I posted the question about a new horn earlier, and thank you for the feedback. I am thinking about looking into the Kanstul horns. I play a Xeno RGS presently (a great horn) but have the itch.......

The 1500 with a copper bell............whataya think???

A guy in church orchestra with me plays the 1500, and I have played it briefly.

It gives a very dark sound that projects well. It plays more open than a Bach 180ML37, especially as you ascend. Personally I think the finish is gorgeous. I love the feel of the valves and slides - they are very smooth. The horn is fairly heavy.

I went to Washington Music Center this summer and played this beside a Conn V1 with rose brass bell and a Kanstul 1500A. My personal preference between the 3 was the 1500A, followed closely by the 1500 and then the V1. The 1500A also had a dark sound, but seemed easier to play (perhaps due to the dual bore). Not having the cash at the time, I ended up getting a Kanstul 1503 in September - the deal was just too good to pass up. I haven't had the opportunity to play it beside my friend's 1500 yet as I've taken time off of orchestra to concentrate more on grad school.

Hope this helps.
