My Dad used to play a Vega trumpet in high school and college. I've still got the horn and it's the only one I've ever heard of. It's an extremely small bore and wont take a modern trumpet mouthpiece, but will take a cornet, but the tuning slide has to be pulled out some). Anyone else ever heard of ths brand. _________________ 1920 Vega trumpet

I believe Vega is famous for banjos and ukuleles and such, but at the turn of the century they imported all kinds of instruments. I see them on Ebay every now and then. I think they were located in Boston.

I once had a "LYLE" trumpet back in 1979. It was terrible. Also..did anyone mention Wurlitzer? I think they once made trumpets. _________________ MARK /aka "musicmork"/ aka " The Creator "

Information on the Nova from one of our members:
Quote: |
I recently purchased an older model cornet, on the bell is engraved NOVA Los Angeles. The Cornet is in fine shape and except for a few minor dings looks and plays quite well. The valves are untarnished and show no corrosion. I belive it is a quality horn.
I thought since it was manufactured in Los Angeles KANSTUL might know of the NOVA make and sent them an inquiry.
I received the following email from them this morning.
"No it is not a Kanstul. This is pre world war II, Novak Musical Instrument Company, owned by Locke in Los Angeles."

There was a retail instrument store in Boston for a while, located on Massachusetts Avenue about two blocks toward the river from Berklee, named Wurlitzer. I bought a Benge C from them in the '70s. They had a line of brass instruments with their name on them. I doubt that they were made by them and I have no knowledge one way or the other about whether the store was connected to the juke box company. |

Tiny little shop in the tiny little country of Luxembourg:

Stumbled upon it while surfing the French side of the web
PS that place on Mass Ave. must have gone way downhill. I couldn't even get a mouthpiece there. |

I think the Wurlizter store is gone. There's a drum and guitar shop but no instrument shops there that I know of.
Wurlitzer's was toward the river from Berklee, maybe where Tower Records openned. |

Doc Severinsen now makes his own trumpets, the Destino.
http://www.docseverinsen.com/destino.htm
Also, wasn't there a now-defunct brand called "The Elkhart?" I've always assumed it was a second line made by Buescher or Conn or one of the early Elkhart, Ind., companies. If someone knows, please correct me. |

No, I'm not aware of another website (but correct me if there is a more appropriate link).
However, Jason Harrelson is a member of this site and publishes his address and email should you care to contact him:
