|

Hi all,
I've been using Zaja Blue for about a year now, and never had any problems for the first 6 months. Then this summer, I went to grad school in TX and now all my horns have a lot of brown discoloration. The valves on my C stick when ever I'm gripping the horn a bit too tight and it is so bad that I don't trust it in performance. Whenever my girlfriend plays the horn, she can't get through anything because it sticks so bad for her.
Could the climate have something to do with this?
In addition to wiping the valves and casing down often, I'm thinking of trying new oil.
Any thoughts on...
H2Oil
Binak 495
Pro-Oil
Others? Thanks. |

I know that Binak has some cleaning solvents in it, so they recommend cleaning your valves out before switching(to reduce the amounts of residue), and when you use it there is some build up for maybe 2 applications and you just have to wipe it off with a cloth. As far as weather gumming up valves, i don't know about hot weather, but cold weather usually does it up here in Wisconsin. I ordered some Zaja Blue for X-mas so hopefully it gets here soon. _________________ -Jim

You can get cheesecloth at most any old-fashioned "Mom-&-Pop" hardware store (not the national "chain" stores, or "big-box" stores). Plus, you'll be patronizing and sustaining a bit of "Americana".

I just ordered some Bells Super Lube to try out....I'll post on that when I get it.
I find Blue Juice works well on Bach's, also Al Cass Fast Oil.....
However I would recommend you try some H2Oil. It's pretty good stuff...expensive though. Also you might try Kevin Clark's Viper Oil, it's really great stuff too. |

Try Al Cass or Slick Stuf.
Those are great and I've never had problems with them. I have used blue juice on my marching crap horn (which had some pretty nice valves for a student trumpet) and the stuff killed my valves. They haven't been the same since.

Check your grocery store, too. That's where I got mine. In the canning supplies, I think. |

I use laquer thinner to clean my valves. It is a ver harsh chemical so read the label. Put some in a coffee cup and dip the valves. Let the valves dry on a rag or towel. Then simply wipe off the fine powder that is left. Once again, be carefull as this stuff is toxic. _________________ Bill Bergren |
